Education

I graduated from Abilene Christian University (ACU) in 2008 with a BA in Youth and Family Ministry and a Minor in Art, with a GPA of 3.47. I received my teaching certification in Art EC-12 from McLennan Community College in 2010.

Experience

I have worked in public, private, and charter schools as an art teacher for the last 7 years. In that time, I have taught grades PreK - 12th in a variety of artistic styles and mediums. I have also facilitated music classes for both vocal and instrumental performances for all ages and done small group interventions in math for grades K - 5th. I am currently teaching art at the high school level in the subjects of Art I, Drawing, Painting, AP Studio Art: 2D Design and AP Studio Art: Drawing. Last year I had students advance to the state level in the VASE art competition and had a student receive 1st place in the Waco Top Young Artist competition winning a $1,000 college scholarship. I have worked as free lance artist since college, doing live paintings on a spinning five foot canvas and other various commissioned works of art. In addition, I have loved music my whole life. I have played tuba for the last 17 years and am well versed in all low brass instruments. In that time, I have played with many various ensembles, the most recent of which being the Waco Community Band. I am also a self taught guitar player and am confident in teaching guitar basics.

Hobbies

With the exception of my family and friends, my favorite things are, without a doubt, music and art. Whether it is listening to my favorite song really loud, sitting quietly in a museum looking at a Van Gogh, I will take either of these any way I can get them. After that, I really enjoy being outside. When I was in college, I worked as a backpacking guide in Colorado, where I would take groups camping, hiking, repelling, and white water rafting. Now, while I still enjoy these things, most of my time outdoors is spent either taking my dog to the dog park or playing disc golf with friends. Lastly, TV shows and movies have to be high on the list on hobbies and interests. On the rare occasion when there is nothing going on, I love getting to sit on the couch with my wife and catch up on our favorite TV shows. The chance to turn off my brain and become engrossed the story is always something I look forward to.
